5 ideas for your extra day off this bank holiday
In the run up to the May bank holidays, we’re sharing some ideas for how to spend that extra weekend day. Because let’s be honest, we always have a full list of plans, then swear we’ll get round to it next time... So, here are five ways to make the most of that long weekend!
1. Get out in the garden
Bright spring days and sunny weather: the perfect combination for a day out in the garden. Getting it all tidied up now gives your plants plenty of room for all that late spring and early summer growth, especially if you’ve growing berries or currants. Need to stock up on gardening essentials? Shop our gardening range and we’ll get it delivered straight to your doorstep – no heavy lifting needed.
2. Explore some local history
At Creamline we’ve been delivering milk since the 1940s, and we’re proud to be keeping this bit of history alive in the modern day. For example, did you know that we still call milk vans ‘floats’ after the two-horse carriages that used to deliver milk in the 1800s?
This weekend, why not head out to explore some history in your local area? That might be a visit to a historic site (make sure to check holiday opening hours first) or just researching something small nearby. You never know what bits of history might be right under your feet!
If you take a walk around Manchester city centre, make sure to visit the Roman fort site in Castlefield. Or head west to explore Chester’s ancient city walls, which are almost 2000 years old and the most complete historic city walls left in Britain. And if you’re walking around Warrington, keep an eye out for the unassuming Traveller’s Rest stone in Great Sankey. It was made for travelling workers in the 1800s heading from Liverpool to Manchester, and is a little reminder of everyday history.
3. Cook something new
During the week we’re all looking for those no nonsense, one-pan meals that we can get on the table as fast as possible. But the long weekend is a fantastic opportunity to really take some time cooking something delicious. Find inspiration in our range of locally sourced produce, or try one of our recipes from local Manchester foodie SpamellaB.
4. Support a charity in your community
Just a little bit of your extra free time this bank holiday could make a huge difference to a charity in your community. If you’re doing a spring clean of your wardrobe, for example, why not drop some clothes off at your local charity shop? Spring is full of little joyful moments, and this is a great way to spread some of that joy around your local community.
5. Pick up a hobby you haven’t tried in a while
Spring is all about growth and new beginnings – find a new spring in your step by rediscovering an old hobby this weekend. We’re talking about that instrument, bit of sports gear or craft kit that’s been gathering dust over the winter... we’ve all got one! Kicking about a football with the kids in your local park, reading under a shady tree – all perfect ways to make the most of the bank holiday and sunny spring weather.
Whatever you’re doing this bank holiday weekend, we know you won’t want to spend time in the shops. Let our roundspeople handle it, and get your milk, fresh food and store cupboard staples delivered straight to your doorstep.
