How to brighten up January blues

How to brighten up January blues

This time of year is known for being cold, dark and even a bit miserable – but what if we embraced winter, instead of just trying to push through it?

Author Katherine May called this ‘wintering’. It’s about using this underrated season to find those much-needed moments of rest and relaxation.

So if you’re feeling the January blues, try some of these cosy, feel-good wintering ideas!

1. Get out in nature

Feeling a little down or unfocused? Wrap up warm and head outside!

When the days are so short, it’s more important than ever to get out in daylight every day. It doesn’t need to be a massive hike or miles-long run if that’s not your thing, just a gentle stroll around your local area can give a huge boost to your mood.

2. Enjoy fresh, colourful food

It might be grey outside, but your plate doesn’t have to be! Fruit and veggies aren’t just for summer salads, you can also enjoy them in warming winter stews and veg-packed pastas.

Visit your local greengrocer – or order from ours – to pick up some delicious seasonal produce like carrots, leeks and mushrooms. As well as adding some colour, they’re full of essential vitamins and minerals that help you feel your best, no matter the weather.

3. Find moments to slow down

Coming back to work over the Christmas break can feel a bit like jumping into the deep end. There’s suddenly a load of new projects to start, plus any tasks rolling over from the last year. It might be tempting to barrel in head first, but try to take a moment to breathe and reset where you can.

4. Choose convenience where you can

It’s completely normal if you’re finding it hard to keep up your normal pace at this time of year – let’s face it, it’s cold! Feel free to try some easier or more efficient ways to manage those everyday tasks, so you can have more time to rest and reflect.

For example, if you’re finding it tricky to tackle the weekly shop, let us handle the shopping for you! Our doorstep delivery service lets you order Daily Essentials and premium local produce directly to your house, delivered by one of our friendly roundspeople.

We hope that wintering can help you brighten up your January! Check out the rest of our blog for more cosy winter ideas and warming recipes.
