Spruce up your garden in time for spring
Days are getting brighter and winter frost is finally lifting – it's the perfect time to flex your green fingers and refresh your garden for the new season.
We’ve got recommendations for some of the best things to plant in spring, as well as the gardening essentials to help them grow.
What can you plant in spring?
Back in September we talked about some of the seasonal gardening you could do ahead of winter. If you planted any spring flower bulbs, like daffodils and crocuses, they’ll be flowering any day now!
But don’t worry if you don’t have any flowers blooming just yet, March is the perfect time to plant perennials such as geraniums and peonies. These flowers like to grow in spring, but they’re also hardy enough to withstand those flashes of colder damp weather that we get early in the season.
Crops with longer growing seasons, like tomatoes, should also be planted in early spring so they have enough time to put down roots.
Gardening essentials without the heavy lifting
Now we all love a weekend trip to the garden centre, but lugging back those bags of compost is never fun. With our free delivery service, you can order all the grow bags, bark, and peat-free compost you need, and our friendly roundspeople will deliver it straight to your doorstep.
Look out for our special offers, with multi-buy discounts available across compost, logs and more.
Look out for and look after local wildlife
Warmer spring weather means local wildlife will become a lot more visible, as some of them come out of hibernation and return from winter migration.
Keep an eye out for birds like swallows and chiffchaffs, who are some of the first to arrive in the UK and can often be spotted from early March.
Want to welcome these birds back home? Sprinkle out some bird seed and sunflower hearts, or put up a nutrient-rich fat ball from Feldy. Just make sure to keep it out of reach of squirrels!
