Recycle Week 2026: Recycling starts on your doorstep
Every September, Recycle Week gives us all a nudge to think about how we can recycle more of the right things, more often. We can all do our bit to reduce, reuse and recycle a little more every day, and at Creamline our traditional glass bottles help us reduce our plastic use.
As well as putting out your empty bottles to be reused, here are a few more ways your Creamline delivery can help you send less to landfill.
Reduce
The easiest way to cut down on packaging waste is to use less of it in the first place.
When you choose Creamline milk delivered in glass bottles, those bottles don’t just go in the bin after one use. They come back to us and are washed and reused again and again, which reduces the need for plastic bottles.

Reuse
Before your Creamline packaging goes anywhere near a bin, think about whether it can do another job first.
Your Best of Local box, for example, is sturdy cardboard that has plenty of life left in it. We have put together a few ideas for giving cardboard packaging a second use - from a makeshift toy car for the kids to a storage box for the garage in our blog. And if you’re a keen gardener, the flat cardboard works well as a foundation for a veg patch or flowerbed – just add compost over the top!
Recycle
Once you have reduced what you can and reused what you can, recycling is the final step - and it matters that the right things go in the right place.
Here are a few things worth knowing about your Creamline packaging to help you recycle right:
- Glass bottles are collected by your roundsperson and returned to us directly, so do not put these in your recycling.
- Cardboard boxes from your Best of Local delivery can go in your paper and card recycling once you are done with them, just remember to flatten them first to save space.
- Food waste from your grocery and fresh produce orders should go in your food waste caddy if your local council collects it. Councils across Greater Manchester, Cheshire and the Wirral all have food waste collections in place, though the collection days and container types vary - check your local council website if you are not sure what applies to your area.
- Items marked with the plastic free icon on our website are free from plastic packaging. For everything else, check the label and recycle what you can.
One thing that trips a lot of people up is putting the wrong things in the recycling bin. Contamination - such as food-soiled packaging or items that are not accepted kerbside - can cause whole loads to be rejected. Rinse out containers, flatten your cardboard, and when in doubt, check with your local council.
