The best gardens and parks to see the North West in full bloom
As the days grow longer and spring’s first blooms appear, it's the perfect time to get out in the fresh air and explore your local area. From riverside strolls to urban gardens, here are some of our favourite Cheshire and Manchester parks and gardens to see in the springtime.
Fletcher Moss, Didsbury
Tucked away in leafy Didsbury, Fletcher Moss offers a beautiful blend of flowers, walking routes, and wildlife. It’s easily accessible from nearby bus and tram stops, making it the perfect spring space just 20 minutes from Manchester.
Fancy a picnic on the grass? We’ve got everything you need for a light al fresco lunch: thinly sliced ham, fresh salad leaves, sweet cherry tomatoes from our Best of Local suppliers, plus cheese and crackers from the Cheshire Cheese Company.
Marbury Country Park, Northwich
Marbury Country Park is at its best in spring, when its 350 hectares of woodland burst into colour with bright flowers like bluebells. The children’s play area makes it a great half term day out, and the park walking routes are accessible for all the family.
You can even take a dip in the Marbury Outdoor Pool if you visit on one of the swimming clubs public access days. It might be a little chilly! To warm up, pack a flask of Worker Bee Breakfast Tea topped with a splash of Creamline milk.
Castlefield Viaduct, Manchester
For a spring day out with a twist, Castlefield Viaduct is the ‘garden in the sky’ above Manchester’s city centre. Half of the former railway viaduct has been transformed into a planted walkway filled with trees, shrubs, and beautiful botanical displays. With views across the city, it’s a refreshing green space right in the heart of Manchester.
Why not pack some sandwiches to enjoy a sky-high lunch while you’re there? Just pick up some classic barms from Thatcher’s Bakery and choose some delicious savoury fillings from our artisan dairy and deli.
Eastham Country Park, Wirral
Right next to the River Mersey, Eastham Country Park includes a tea garden and picnic areas among 100 acres of grassy woodland. Remember to bring your binoculars, as this park is a favourite for birds like chaffinchs, nuthatches and blue tits.
