What’s in season in August, and how you can make the most of it

August is one of the best months for British fruit. The days are long, sunflowers are blooming, and some of the most flavoursome produce of the whole year is hitting its peak right now.

If you've been relying on the same fruit bowl staples all summer, this is a good moment to branch out (no pun intended) and try some of the delicious produce that’s at its best this time of year.

What fruit is in season in August?

When it comes to seasonal produce in August, berries take centre stage. Strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blackcurrants, redcurrants and blueberries are all ripening, ready to add  sweetness and tartness to smoothies and breakfasts.

When produce is harvested at the right time, it retains more of its natural flavour and can even have extra nutrients*! This is why we feature seasonal fruit and veg in our Best of Local range, all handpicked from local markets by our greengrocer.

Recipes that make the most of summer fruit

Like with any high-quality ingredient, the simplest recipes are often the ones that let them shine the most.

  • Serve up a punnet of raspberries with a splash of cream, or a bowlful of mixed berries alongside breakfast - fresh fruit doesn't need much help.
  • Don’t have as much of a sweet tooth? Then you might be a fan of this trendy strawberry bruschetta, where the fruit takes the place of traditional tomatoes. All you need to do is slice up the strawberries, drizzle them with good quality balsamic vinegar, and serve them on slices of crusty baguette with fresh basil.
  • Or for something more traditional, our summer fruits cheesecake recipe uses strawberries, raspberries and blueberries - exactly the fruit that's at its best right now.

Can’t wait to get cooking? Our friendly roundspeople will deliver your Best of Local produce directly to your doorstep, and it only takes a minute or two to set up your account
