Strawberries and Cream at the Ready, it’s Wimbledon Time

Strawberries and Cream at the Ready, it’s Wimbledon Time

This week saw the grand return of Wimbledon - now the world’s oldest and most prestigious grass tennis tournament. Spanning two weeks of nail biting tennis, the grand slam is watched by millions of people all over the world.

If you haven’t been able to make it to the event, the museum is open all year round. Or, you can try these activities to get you into the tennis spirit.

Spectate Together

There may not be a glorious SW roof terrace, but the city of Manchester will still give you some stunning locations to sit and watch the tennis together. Whether it’s on deckchairs in the sun, strolling through town or whilst shopping. Here are our top 4 Manchester spots, to take in the action:

·         The Lawn, Spinningfields.

·         MediaCityUK, Salford

·         Exchange Square, Manchester City Centre

·         The Orient, Trafford Centre

Whip Up a Grand Slamming Feast

If heading into town doesn’t take your fancy, then why not celebrate in your own garden, laying on a spread worthy of the Wimbledon trophy?!

·         GBBO’s finalist Luis Troyano has created a collection of afternoon tea recipes for us at Creamline and you can make them too – for a sophisticated addition to your buffet.

·         Of course, no tennis tournament is complete without some strawberries and cream, fresh from our #bestoflocal range.

·         Everybody loves a quiche - with some delicious Mediterranean flavours, the sun will be shining over your banquet.

·         Keep everyone cool, with a refreshing Watermelon Smoothie or Strawberry Ice Cream Cooler.

Be a Part of It

Just because you missed out on court-side tickets, doesn't mean you can't immerse yourself in Wimbledon action. There are plenty of activities that can make you feel involved.

·         Tennis courts are available in the majority of public parks. Pick up a racket and get a taste of Wimbledon fever for yourself. You can even get a group together and go for doubles!

·         British picnics are a great way to soak up the Wimbledon spirit. Make yourself cucumber sandwiches and scotch eggs, roll up a picnic blanket and indulge in some strawberries and cream.

·         Head to one of the many large screen events across the UK. Bars, restaurants and public spaces all say hello to the giant screen, as it prepares for 2 weeks of Wimbledon. Join in and watch with likeminded people.
